Spirited pre-election political debate in Pukekohe
29 September 2026
Around 60 growers and others in the vegetable sector attended the Pre-election Political Debate hosted by NZVeg, Potatoes NZ and the Pukekohe Vegetable Growers Association last Friday (25 September).
The debate centred on the NZ Vegetable Sector Manifesto. NZVeg Chair, Dame Alison Stewart was the MC and did a skillful job keeping the panelists inline.
The debate was suitably lively for a Friday night, at the start of electioneering. Topics such as supermarket, resource management, water storage and energy reform drew spirited discussion, even if some of the left and right leaning political parties were not very far apart on some issues.
