Mike Brown appointed inaugural CEO of NZVeg
4 June 2026
Mike Brown – who has extensive experience in primary industries, governance, trade and advocacy – has been appointed inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NZ Vegetable Council (NZ Veg).
‘Mike is recognised for building collaborative relationships across industry, government and the export sector,’ says NZVeg Board Chair, Dame Alison Stewart.
‘His leadership approach combines strategic thinking with a strong commitment to supporting people, strengthening organisations and delivering long-term value for members.
‘Mike also brings a practical understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing growers and rural businesses. It’s for these reasons that the Board and I are extremely happy with Mike’s appointment, and look forward to working with him, at this pivotal time for the commercial vegetable sector.’
Mike has held senior leadership and governance roles in primary sector organisations for 25 years. He has been CEO of the Marlborough Grape Growers Cooperative since 2020, and is also Chair of Cooperative Business NZ and the NZ Blackcurrant Cooperative.
‘Vegetables are such an essential part of healthy communities, and the sector has a direct connection to wellbeing, sustainability and regional prosperity,’ says Mike.
‘At the same time, growers operate in an environment that is increasingly complex, balancing regulation, environmental pressures, workforce challenges, market demands and public expectations. They do this while producing high-quality food for New Zealanders and export markets, rain or shine.
‘I’m looking forward to working alongside growers, industry partners and government to help ensure the vegetable sector remains strong, resilient and well-positioned for the future.’
Mike starts his new role as CEO of NZVeg on 3 August 2026.
